Chunc Wheelchairs  E-mail
Richard Smith, father of Sophie, had a vision. He wanted a wheelchair that was comfortable, easy to use, stylish and had a postural management seating system.
Chunc was Born!!

ImageRichard worked closely with disabled young people, heathcare professionals and carers to try and gain an insight into what users needed from a wheelchair. By transferring technology and materials from the HR Smith Group aerospace business, he was able to create a wheelchair that gives a level of user availability and adjustment that was not previously possible.

The Story of Chunc Wheelchairs

Richard Smith's Daughter was born severely disabled and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. When she was younger a regular stroller met her mobility needs, but as she got older they needed specialist seating, which was met by modified strollers and specialized wheelchairs. Unfortunately these chairs did not give the right support and in fact caused more problems than they solved.

ImageBy using knowledge gained from designing and manufacturing products for the aerospace business and committing to an upfront production investment, richard was able to break free from the previous constraints of the old wheelchair designs to produce Inovative, Functional, userfriendly and stylish wheelchairs.

Chunc wheelchairs has revolutionized the look and feel of children's wheelchairs by create a totally original design, proving that even for old products, that originals ideas can happen.

The design for Chunc wheelchairs gained the Innovation Design Award at the Rehacare Exhibition in Germany in October 2005. Also in 2005 Chuch donated 50 wheelchairs to help children in Sri Lanka who were affected by the Tsunami and also donate 30 chairs to Thailand Tsunami relief project in Phuket.
