What is MySpecialChild.co.uk about?

MySpecialChild is an online community website for parents and carers with special needs children. Originally it was developed as a site just for Ethan (Ethan is our special child) as a way of keeping family members up-to-date on his progress. In its first month it received about 1,000 visitors and we got lots of email asking about the site and for advice. After searching around the internet we found that although there was a lot of similar site, very few were still active. It was then I decided to create the MySpecialChild website. Initially it started off with a few articles and links to other sites. The current website came online in the middle of October (2004). It now includes the following.

News/Articles

Forum & Chat Room

Online store & Merchandise

Games & Competitions

Photo Gallery

Monthly Newsletter

What are MySpecialChild's Aims?

The aim for MySpecialChild is to create a website built around a community, a community of parents and carers of children with special needs. Members of the site will be able to get involved in the site as little or as much as they like. You can just look at the site or you can publish your own articles, pictures and post in the forum. You can become an editor where you will get to play an active part in developing the content of the site or be a moderator on the forums. We also need people who know their way around the internet who can find new resources and information.

Who is Ethan?

The boy you see on this and on the website is Ethan. He is the inspiration and our motivation behind the MySpecialChild website. Ethan was born in 2001 with a condition known as Cerebral Palsy - Spastic Quadraplegia. All his limbs are affected. At present he is unable to stand, walk, crawl or sit-up without support. Ethan CAN play, smile and laugh. He loves Barney and Bob the Builder. He wants to visit Balamory and he loves Trains, Boats and Diggers. He is a healthy 3 year old boy, who is very, very special.
