Welcome to MySpecialChild
MySpecialChild.co.uk is an online Magazine for parents and carers of children with special needs.
Welcome to the May Issue. With the general election this month it is good to see that disabled and non-disabled children are getting mentioned at the highest level. There has been a big focus from all three parties on education.
The National Autistic Society and Treehouse are putting Autism at the centre of the 2005 General Election Campaign. If you are affected by Autism you will already know there is a great need for change. The Autism counts campaign wants candidates to agree to support their Manifesto for Autism. The aim is to stop children with Autism being neglected at school, to stop adults with Autism being wrongly imprisoned and to stop parents desperate to get their children's difficulties recognised becoming the subjects of child protection investigations. Autism counts vision will be achieved through investment in training and services, so that people with Autism and their families are respected, supported and receive the same rights and entitlements as others. You can find out more and show your support by visiting www.autismcounts.org.uk.
Every year in the UK over half a million babies are born, out of these it is suggested that one in four has some neurological problem. This can be anything from epilepsy to cerebral palsy. Cerebra is the Foundation for the Brain Injured Child and they are dedicated to reducing these terrible statistics. Cerebra works to make sure that up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge is available and applied for the prevention of brain damage. In addition to this work Cerebra also organises training seminars and workshops for parents, professionals and children as well as co-odinating the international parent network (PARNET). To find out more about Cerebra visit their website www.cerebra.org.uk.
